So the other night I was at home relaxing and conversing with friends. You know, even though I talk all day long about sex at work and most of the time it’s the last thing I want to talk about outside of work, there are still times when a topic comes up that requires extended discussion.
The topic that was brought to my attention the other evening was the various names for oral sex. The almost rhetorical question that was delivered to me was why there are slang “names” for fellatio and male masturbation but not for cunnilingus. Now there are plenty of ‘action’ terms for going down on a female bodied person… You know- polishing the pearl, muff diving, box munching, pussy eating, etc. But what about just a name for it, like something you could give or receive from someone else. Male bodied folks can receive blow jobs and hand jobs (and give them) but what jobs are there for female bodied folks?
After some serious soul searching and deliberation I coughed up the term pearl job. But after rolling it over my tongue a few times I realized it was too close to pearl jam and that because of that it could never reach the same levels of usage as it’s phallus-oriented counterparts.
So I pose the question to you, GV Blog readers…

Not so creative, but I have used the term “eat out” as a noun. Like “hey man who shares home with me, please give me an eat out.”

Blow job is so inaccurate - how did it become so popular?
I like the term “Head”… as in, “giving head” or “getting head”. It’s all about the fact that someone’s head is in your crotch.
And, it’s a gender/genital-neutral term!
secondlastwish, I was curious about that the term “blow job” as well… and always thought it originated from the intersection of sex work and drug sales, where the job of performing fellatio for a client could bring in enough money for the next hit. However I don’t think it’s accurate at all. Anyone else know?
I love head. I mean, um, I love calling oral sex performed on a female “head”. It’s so easy to say, so fun to do. It’s also easy to talk about in the middle of a crowded taqueria. “When we get home, you owe me.” I owe you what?! “head.” and no one is even paying attention….like you never even talked about licking pussy, but ya’ did.
