A VIBRATOR FOR GRANDMA, Part V

When I gave my grandmother an Essential Coil  “Massager” for Christmas, my intention was actually to give her as a vibrator. Due to the circumstances in which I gave it to her, however, I was not able to inform her of the less advertised uses of a “massager.”

Two months later, I filled her in over the phone.

“How did you like the massager, gram?”

“Oh, it was alright. I haven’t used it much – I suppose I’ll have to try it some more and see if it grows on me.”

“Where have you tried it?”

“Mostly my back and shoulders.”

“You know,” I said with a matter-of-fact tone, “you can also use it as a vibrator.”

“To vibrate what?”

“Your clitoris.”

“Oh, Zoe,” she said wearily, “I don’t want to hear about that.” – then quickly lightened the mood, referring laughingly to our earlier conversation – “tell me more about volunteering at the animal shelter.”

“Well, you don’t know what you’re missing,” I said, fumbling. And with an eagerness that surprised me, I rushed to change the subject.

I am sad to think that the conversation might have continued in a productive direction if I had not hurried us both so quickly through that moment of discomfort. After all, her initial reaction to discussing the g-spot with me had been similar. Indeed, more severe. (see A Vibrator for Grandma, Part III).

But at least now she knows that the option exists. And who knows? Maybe she’ll try it out one day.

I just read through your story, thanks for sharing! I just had to muster the courage to explain herpes and HPV to my parents, which was incredibly awkward (even as a sex educator).

I’ll be rooting for your Grandma!
