Gotta love wikipedia. If you’ve been following the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), proposed by US fed law that prohibits discrimination against all employees on the basis of sexual orientation, you know that the current debate is whether or not to include gender identity within the bill.
Basically, the deal is that there’s two versions of the bill. One includes gender identity, the other does not. I suppose the deal is that some folks think that the bill will pass if it ‘doesn’t go there’ in terms of gender. Large LGBTQIXYZ organizations are in support of keeping gender included in the bill. And I agree with them. I know people are fearful about gender identity, but I hope politicians have the good sense to bring it to the plate. It’s almost 2008, people. Let’s educate ourselves.
I’d provide it all here, but go to wikipedia to get both sides of the debate, links to the pertinent politicians, and even fabulous animated gifs like the one above.

It is sad that there even has to be laws to stop discrimination. Who has enough time in their day to discriminate?
i totally agree with Conrad’s comment. I can’t believe it’s even an issue still…i thought we were in the future.
