I’ll spare the more illustrious details of Black Rock City, however I MUST conclude my report on how to make the best of safer sex in the playa.

Everything I mentioned in that blog — the travel pack, the latex/non-latex, the wipes, the lube packets, etc — was true. However what I did not anticipate was the amount of workshops and discussion groups I would find at Burning Man.

How could I have forgotten one of the most important parts of practicing safer sex — communication. A number of camps held workshops, classes, and discussion groups about a variety of topics — about everything from Safe Rope Knotting, BDSM 101, Lesbian Sex 101, Poly High Tea, Bi-Curious Folks, even how to Knit Your Own Dildo Cozy.

While I missed the Strap-on-a-Thon (a dyke and trans friendly sex play party), I was able to catch a number of other sex events in which the main focus was, more often than not, communication! Being respectful of others’ boundaries, whether you are holding hands or cracking a whip, was regarded as the Hottest thing ever.

While those workshops might have been a first for many folks out there in the desert heat, I returned to SF with the happy thought that anyone can continue similar workshops year-round right here at home. If you haven’t checked out Good Vibrations‘ educational opportunities, you’re missing out on one of the major cultural GEMS of GV’s ‘footprint’ on the world. Here are some of the many ways you can take advantage:

After Hours Classes
For folks in the SF Bay Area or in Brookline MA, take your pick from a wild and stimulating array of “After Hours” classes — affordable, fun, and worth the price. Read what Redbook and Sex Columnist Violet Blue had to say about Bay Area Classes, or those on the East Coast can see what Stuff@night had to say.

Off Site Sex Education
Sex education specifically for you - these are workshops for colleges, high schools, conferences, for counselors, therapists, and educators from different fields. With a wide range of backgrounds, the educators facilitating these Off Site Sex Education workshops can meet almost any sex ed topic and occasion.

GV University
Good Vibrations University was started in 2006 by Education Program Manager (and now blogger!) Charlie Glickman, PhD. It’s an online interactive training program specifically for sexuality educators who work in a sales setting. While it was originally designed for GV’s Wholesale customers, it is now available to ALL sex toy retailers.

Sex Ed 101 Articles!
Can’t make it to our classes? GV brings the information to YOU online with hundreds of sex ed articles. Divided by categories of How-Tos, Shopping Guides, Sex Toys 101, Safer Sex, Erotic Anatomy and Sexual Knowledge, these articles and some GV TV special episodes tackle questions about everything from Choosing the best vibrator for You and BDSM, to the P-Spot and Lube Info Guides. Happy Reading!
