As many GV customers and staff know, GV is low on lots of inventory right now. This really sucks for us in the SESA positions because we are the ones who get to hear the customers’ complaints about out of stock items. The bulk of my calls and emails for the past week or so have been people asking when we’ll be getting certain product in stock, wondering why we are out of stock on “everything”, or canceling back ordered items because “I’m tired of waiting for this item”. Most of the calls are pretty simple. I always try to reassure customers the items are slowly coming back in stock with most items having a due date in August. If you reassure someone that you are going to receive the product within a certain time frame, they are usually happy and glad to wait.

Some people are not so happy though. I had one customer tell me that we were out of stock of EVERYTHING! We have plenty of items in stock, but maybe every item she looked at was out of stock. When I tried to reassure her, she got kinda of mad and decided that she didn’t want anything. I apologized for the inconvenience that this had caused her and bid her a good day. I certainly hoped that she did have a good day.

I also had a customer call wanting to order a book for a friend’s wedding that was about a week away. She thought that it would be a great wedding gift. We are, in fact, out of stock of the particular book she was seeking. When I broke the devastating news to her, she replied with “Well, you just ruined my life!” I almost couldn’t believe my ears. This one book that she wanted to get a friend, the wedding was a week away mind you, was not available and that just ruined her life. I tried to offer a few alternatives, but she did not want to hear it. It ruined her life. I don’t ever want to ruin anyone’s life ever again.

Ahhhh, life in the call center. It can be pretty interesting. I think I’m gonna like it here.
