I am up to my knees in porn. I’ve always been a fan but this is a little extreme. I recently took on the DVD selection and since I haven’t been in sales for two years I have a lot of catching up to do.
But like many in porn, I am rising to the occasion.
It’s actually quite exciting to see how many studios are doing big budget pictures and how many new performers are getting recognition and clout. It’s also exciting to see how many independent production companies are doing seriously hot porn but without the LA aesthetic… and that our customers are yearning for both!
There is so much out there and I’m trying to really get a handle on which studios have which contract talent, who does good wall to wall, what hot new educational titles are being released and how we can bring it more hot porn for our customers. I have to admit, it’s a lot of work but I am enjoying it.
On top of that I get to browse the industry websites keeping up on what’s coming on, what’s happening legally and, in general, what is new on the porn side.
This business is really unique and every once and a while there’s something that just really makes my day. A few days ago it was watching Ashley and Kisha: Finding the Right Fit. It’s the new Tony Comstock film and is just as sweet, intimate and sincere as his other films. It was touching and hot at the same time.
Today it was reading about a new blockbuster staring Carmen Luvana that is being filmed in Hawaii. Hawaii?
So in January I was at the AVN show in Las Vegas. It was the day after the show ended and the day of the awards, I was walking through the Venetian lobby and ran into an old college friend. We had met while building sets for the theatre department – me on one side of the wall, and him on the other. I think a drill was involved and we were building a set for Translations . I’m pretty sure that was the play.
When I ran into him I was a little taken aback – it was after all porn week in Vegas… so did that mean he was doing porn?
No - he was IN porn but as a non-sex actor. Love it!
So this morning I am readying my daily AVN and they are talking about this new title being filmed in Hawaii… and I remember my college chum telling me he was flying to Hawaii to do a new film (non-sex role though of all my college theatre pals I always thought he’d be the one to do porn)… so I read the article and there he is:
“The next day is filled with dialogue and involves the first action with professional actor, Xavier Towers, who plays Eden’s host, Mr. Xavier.
By 10:48 a.m., the whole cast is lined up near the entrance to the estate for Mr. Xavier’s welcome.
“Good evening, welcome to the island. If you need anything, just ask,” he says.”
Is it wrong to beam with pride at something that has nothing to do with me? I don’t think so. I just love that somebody from a life I lived over 10 years ago is suddenly thrust into my new life. I feel connected to Xavier Towers (not his real name obviously) in this new way – not as a fading memory of my younger years but something new. It’s like we are sharing an inside joke… or something.
Whatever it is… it’s great and it knowing Xavier is in an upcoming film gives me hope that in these piles of porn a friendly face will be waiting.
