Today is National HiV testing day.
I don’t normally go along peacefully when the government tells me that I should do something but in this case I actually agree with them. Please don’t take away my certified dissenter card! I promise I’ll be pissed off at them again tomorrow! (or later today if I get another parking ticket)
Its important that every sexually active adult get tested at least once and if you are in the high risk group, or having sex with someone in the high risk group, you should go at least once a year. There is an estimate that close to 250,000 in the US are HiV positive and not aware of it. These days its easy, they don’t even have to take your blood or ask for ID.
I’m going to get tested this week, are you?
I’ve heard all the excuses before, I’m monogamous, I use condoms, I trust my partner, my right hand doesn’t carry diseases, yeah yeah yeah. Me too!
Guess what, it still never hurts to get tested! Even better, take some friends. Do it as an act of sex positive activism. Whatever it takes, just do it!
