Design Your Own Sex Toy Box

One of the great things about working at GV has been the dynamic increase of sex toys and accessories I have accumulated since I started here. The only downside to this was then to figure out where to put everything. Hiding one smallish vibrator in my underwear drawer is one thing, but I certinaly didn’t have the space to create my own sex toy drawer (alas I also lack a night table), but lucky for me I do have a certain affinity for crafts and decided to turn my influx of sex toys into another opportunity for greatness.

Creating a special space for your sex toys is great for a multitude of reasons:

1. It automatically keeps everything you need together so you don’t have to turn your bedroom inside out looking for a condom or have to run to your bathroom to grab some lube (sigh, yes this has happened and yes, it can be a bit of a mood breaker)

2. Just looking at it, opening it, or thinking about your box of sex supplies can be a BIG turn on. Imagine your own little treasure trove filled with everything that gets you giggly just waiting for you under your bed. I’m already smiling and looking wistfully at the clock.

3. If you’re crafty like me, then designing your own sexy toy box is an afternoon of fun just waiting to happen. If you’re not so much into glue guns and vials of glitter you can always pick up the ultra stylish Devine Toy Box or Devine Satchel to keep your goodies discreet and nearby.

Designing your own Sex Toy Box:

Since everyone has their own unique, incredible style this will only serve as a sort of brainstorming of possible toy box ideas and not a serious How-To instructional piece. Use your crafty imagination, make your box special to you and it will be special. It’s as simple as that.

Size: The most important job your sex toy box will have is holding all of your sex supplies, so make sure whatever box you use is large enough to hold everything. While certain boxes might be cute, if it can’t fit your Hitachi, it might not work for you. For people who don’t like advertising their goods, shoe boxes or hat boxes can work just fine and probably won’t raise any eyebrows if they were left in public view. For a while I was using an antique lunchbox that had been sitting on a shelf collecting dust and while it was exciting to hear those metal snaps click, ultimately it just couldn’t hold all my toys (now it holds my special occasion make-up instead).

Supplies: thinking of what goodies to include in your box is half the fun! Obvious choices like vibrators, dildos, harnesses, etc. are great but don’t forget your accessories like condoms, dental dams, finger cots, wipes, lube, blindfolds, or even mints. Anything you love and want to have accessible around with your sex toys is always a great addition to making your toy box individually yours. Dental floss, feathers, massage oils, special candles, sexy lipstick, your favorite porn, steamy magazines, erotica, or perhaps a cd featuring some sexy mood music can turn your box into an event. And make sure not to forget your GV toy cleaner. Plus, having all your favorite things together in a single container makes portability a great asset. The next time your lover calls and asks you come right over you can just grab your box and go.

Compartments: While it might be just fine for you to throw everything you need in your box all together, if you’re an Organizational Master that would put Martha Stewart to shame you might want to think about creating compartments that keep your toys separate from your safe sex supplies or your bath and body products. That way, if by some chance your lube opens or your massage lotion springs a leak it won’t get all over everything.

Decor: While I won’t try to tell you what your sex toy box should look like I will go so far as to say that it should represent your specific sensuality. If a plain box with naughty things inside gets your juices flowing then that’s what your box should be. If you want to create a very romantic space maybe try some velvet scraps to give your box a lush lining.

This is your toy box, just have fun with it. Take a fieldtrip to the Container Store or your favorite boutique, boxes are all around us and you just never know what treats you might find inside. Now go dig up your felt and rhinestones and get going!
