Yesterday I trained a new SESA (sex educator/sales associate) on the safer sex area of the store. Finger cots, condoms, dental dams (which I spelled as, and then erased, “dental damns”. hm.), gloves, female condoms. I pretened to be the customer and she pretended she had worked at GV for years.
I asked how to make safer sex sexy to those who seem hesitant to use condoms and dental dams and gloves. New Girl correctly offered that doing little things, like using Good Vibrations Condoms (with a drop of lube in the tip) will increase sensation as opposed to take it away. (exciting, yes).
Another tip I gave her that I will pass onto you is this:
Lesbians have more orgasms than straight women (wait! listen! this isn’t going to be an “everyone turn homo” message. just wait.) Part of the reason for this statistic is because lesbians can’t accidentally get pregnant. How do orgasms and no non-planned babymaking go hand in hand? When dykes fuck, they have to worry about STI’s, but not about pregancy. That’s a HUGE load off any woman’s mind. Without the weight of a potential child bearing down on a woman’s brain, she’s more able to float off into happy orgasm land.
As much as I hate to say this, some women think too much when it comes to sex. Many of us were taught that we should only have sex when we’re in love, or in marriage; or that we need to learn “101 Different Ways to Please Your Man!”; or that we’re not worth sexing because of our hair or makeup or weight or occupation.
Using condoms (and dental dams and gloves and finger cots, and whatever else makes you feel safe) removes one Gigantic barrier of worry and allows your sexy waters to flow more freely. Let your partner know this.
If you encounter resistance even then, perhaps it’s time to find another partner.
