This past Sunday, thousands of kinky friendly folks gathered for this year’s Folsom Street Fair. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Folsom Fair, it’s the worlds largest leather, alternative and kinky street fair in the world. Now in its 23rd year the fair attracts close to a half a million people and donates hundreds of thousands of dollars back to community based charities. Every year they block off Folsom street in San Francisco between 7th and 12th and the streets pack with people ranging from your next door neighbor dresses as if he just left work to naked slaves leashed and followed closely by latex covered Dominants. It’s a one of a kind event!
My first order of business upon arrival was to check in on the Sex and Culture booth manned by our own goddess of education Carol Queen and friends. Carol was sitting on fucking machine style contraption and using her legs to pump away at the pedals that slowly pumped a dildo up and down in the middle of a seat nearby. She pumped away rhythmically calling out for donations and exhibitionist volunteers to all who passed by. We spent a few minutes helping them solicit email addresses for the mailing list and collecting donations before attempting to push onward through the crowd.
Although the Good Vibes booth was only a block over from where we were, the crowd was so packed together that it took us close to a half hour to make our way to where the Good Vibes super volunteers were busily spreading our sex positive message.
People were packed in like sardines attempting to catch glimpses of the action happening on every inch of Folsom street.
By the time we reached the GoodVibes booth they had been cleaned out of almost everything! Throughout the day visitors were encouraged to spin a wheel where they could win free goodies like the “mystery toy”, audio erotica, bottled water and lube samplers. This year we weren’t selling anything, but the wheel was a definite hit.
