We’re in the midst of an office move here. Some departments moving to the other building, some of us spreading out. Lots of boxes, packing, new phone extensions, and the like. Whew, it’s both troublesome and exciting. And you all know what it’s like to pack… the things you uncover! The years’ worth of paraphernalia and memorabilia that collects in every nook and cranny.

I’ve been here over three years, and you just can’t imagine the kinds of things that I found recently in our work area. Being in the buying office means that manufacturers’ samples find their way to people’s desks, whether you like it or not. Of course, there are the potential items that we really might carry - a vibe that the toy buyer leaves for someone else to test, or a new title that the book buyer distributes for a review, or a video screener that someone has to watch in order to ensure that it’s “GV approved.” So there’s that.

There are also the rejects - the toys that will never make it (see Judi B’s entry in the GV Sex Tips Blog concerning products like Anal-eze, please). And the oddballs (miniature desk-top blow-up dolls, anyone?). And the squeeze ‘n squirt dick-shaped dildo that really comes! (jizz-flavored lube included!) My, oh my. And the inordinate number of packaging options & label designs up on our boards awaiting their chance to be molded, printed, stamped, sealed & delivered into retail fame.

All that being said, what might surprise people is just how normal our cubicle farm really is. My desk has a picture of my boyfriend & me at a friend’s wedding. My computer’s “desktop” features my dog (the cutest, sweetest dog, but don’t get me started). My cubicle is filled with postcards, and coffee mugs, and folders of paperwork (much of it overdue for review), and my favorite old calculator that I’ve carried with me through four different companies.

People are always intrigued when I tell them where I work - they think it’s so exciting, and sexy, and nudge, nudge, wink, wink. And it is. But it’s also just like any other cubicle farm… we just smile a lot more than the average office schlub.
